Luxury care home to open next month
A significant boost to local care provision for nursing and dementia in the region is set to be added with the luxury 55 en-suite room Moorland Garden Nursing Home opening next month.
The multi-million pound refurbishment of the former hotel on Dartmoor is progressing according to plan and will be ready for inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as required by law.
Commenting on the imminent opening of the luxury facility, which will create around 60 local jobs, Yogi Yogendran, Director of Moorland Garden Ltd, said:
“We have made significant progress on site and are now putting the finishing touches to the property to ensure our new residents can relax and enjoy their new surroundings. I am also very pleased that the quality of what we are trying to achieve here at Moorland Garden has attracted a team of experienced local care professionals to provide specialist care and support.”
The new recruits include a commissioning manager, care home manager and assistant manager. On joining Moorland Garden Nursing Home, commissioning manager Jules Evanson said.
“I was excited to be part of what will be one of the finest nursing environments in the region at such an important time prior to its opening, assisting with recruitment and preparing for CQC inspection. Our team is looking forward to hosting open days and giving tours to potential residents and their families to show them what we have to offer.”
The development of the site, which was purchased in November 2020, has taken 15 months since the project commenced. The specialist work has involved extensions to the existing buildings, widening corridors and transformation of rooms and communal areas into high-specification spaces for residents and staff.
The development has been enabled by Gloucester-based Blackfinch Investment with Walton Development & Construction as the principal contractor. Moorland Garden Ltd has collaborated with various partners, including ADG (Darlington) for architectural services, Bell Cornwell Planning Consultants for Planning services, Inspired Energy for connectivity solutions, Agile Comms for telephone services, Cutec for IT infrastructure, and Fuel for brand development and website creation.
